Hi!
🌷 Welcome to the April 2025 edition of Trust Truman — your guide to health, wellness and Medicare matters! As spring settles in, it's the perfect time for a little seasonal refresh — not just for your home, but for your health routines, too. In this issue, we’re diving into simple ways to “spring clean” your wellness habits. Plus, we caught up with podiatrist Dr. Bridget Corey for our latest blog, Healthy Feet in Your Golden Years: Podiatrist-Recommended Tips for Seniors. She shares expert-backed tips to keep your feet strong, supported, and pain-free — essential for staying active and independent. We’re also covering key Medicare updates, the benefits of sunshine and much more. Let’s dive in!
✨ TIMELY TOPIC: SPRING CLEANING FOR HEALTH
As the days get longer and we embrace the spirit of spring cleaning, it's a great time to refresh not just our homes, but also our health routines! Just as we declutter our living spaces, taking a moment to tidy up our health habits can lead to a healthier and more vibrant year ahead.
Here are a few ways to spring clean your health:
💊 Review Your Medications: Take a moment to gather your medications, supplements, and over-the-counter remedies. Ensure you understand their purpose, that they haven't expired, and that the dosages are correct. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact your doctor or pharmacist for clarification.
✅ Schedule Those Check-ups: If you've been meaning to schedule routine check-ups, screenings, or appointments with specialists, now is an excellent time to make those calls and prioritize your preventive care.
🩺 Make Time for Your Annual Wellness Visit: Along those same lines, spring serves as a great reminder to schedule your annual wellness visit if you haven't yet this year. This important appointment with your primary care physician allows you to discuss your overall health, create a personalized plan for the year ahead, and address any health-related concerns.
🌸 Enjoy the Springtime Outdoors: Blair County in spring offers some lovely opportunities for gentle activity and fresh air. Explore local options and enjoy the outdoors!
🥑 Consider Your Lifestyle Habits: Spring is a good time to reflect on your daily routines. Think about incorporating more physical activity, focusing on nutritious meals, and ensuring you're getting adequate rest.
✨ TIMELY TOPIC: FOOT HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
Healthy Feet in Your Golden Years: Podiatrist-Recommended Tips for Seniors
👣 Your feet carry you through life—let’s keep them strong and healthy! In honor of Foot Health Awareness Month, we caught up with Dr. Bridget Corey, DPM from Blair Foot & Ankle in Duncansville to talk all things foot care! From preventing pain to staying mobile and independent as we age, her tips are a must for seniors and caregivers alike!
💪 WELLNESS SPOTLIGHT: SUNSHINE AND SMILES - SPRING’S MENTAL HEALTH PERK-UP!
Spring isn't just about blooming flowers – it can give your mood a little sunshine boost too! Those longer, brighter days help our brains cook up more serotonin, that happy-go-lucky chemical (think of it as your brain's internal smile generator!). Plus, ditching the couch for some outdoor fun can seriously dial down stress levels. Even a gentle stroll in nature is like a mini spa day for your mind!
🏥 MEDICARE MINUTE: KEY UPDATES
Mehmet Oz takes the helm at CMS
Dr. Mehmet Oz has been confirmed as the new director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He will lead the agency responsible for providing health coverage to more than 160 million people through Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance marketplace.
Medicare to cover CT colorectal screening retroactively
The CMS has mandated that coinsurance and deductibles be waived for the newly covered CT colorectal cancer screening, retroactive to Jan. 1. The move is aimed at ensuring patients face no out-of-pocket costs for the preventive examination.
Medicare won’t be required to cover GLP-1s for obesity
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) won’t go forward with a Biden-era proposal that would’ve required Medicare to cover GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound for obesity.
Cost-of-Living adjustment (COLA) for 2025
Social Security benefits increased by 2.5% starting in January 2025, the smallest adjustment since 2021, affecting over 72.5 million beneficiaries, with an average increase of $49 per month for retirees (from $1,927 to $1,976).

🐺 Sounds like a sci-fi novel: Colossal Biosciences says dire wolves, which went extinct 10k years ago, are back. It extracted DNA from two fossils and used genetic editing to produce three puppies: males Romulus and Remus, and a female named Khaleesi after the “Game of Thrones” character.
